Review of the Chinese crossover Lifan Myway
The model is absolutely fresh, the premiere of the new Lifan Myway took place at the Beijing Motor Show at the end of April 2016. In China, the crossover is offered under the name Lifan Maiwei with a 1.5-liter gasoline 109 horsepower engine at a very affordable price from 57,800 yuan for a version with 5 manual transmissions to 76,800 yuan for a car equipped with 4 automatic transmissions (580-770 thousand rubles).
For the Russian market, the new budget Chinese crossover Lifan Mayway with a seven-seat interior is planned to be assembled at the Lifan Motors plant near Lipetsk. The construction of the plant has not yet been completed, but according to the plan, the car assembly line of the enterprise will begin its work at the end of this year.
The appearance of the new Lifan Myway crossover is serious and strict, simple and concise, but at the same time, the budget Chinese novelty looks solid and presentable. A massive front bumper with round foglights, a large false radiator grille with a wide chrome crossbar decorated with the Lifan inscription, compact headlights with an original pattern of LED running lights.
On the side, the body of the Chinese crossover looks powerful and bright. And most importantly, every centimeter of the length and height of the body is used, as they say, really, especially given the modest dimensions of the model.
The overall dimensions of the new SUV make it possible to classify it as a compact SUV. The length of the car is 4440 mm, width and height – 1760 and 1730 mm, respectively. The wheelbase of the crossover is 2720 mm, the ground clearance does not exceed 192 mm. Analyzing the proportions of Lifan May Wei 2016-2017, it becomes clear that it was possible to squeeze as many as three rows of seats into such a limited volume by maximizing the center distance. As a result, the front and rear overhangs are very short, which catches the eye when viewed from the side of the car.
The wheels of the car are placed at the corners of the perimeter of the body, which, on the one hand, provides minimal overhangs of the body, and on the other, allows you to allocate as much space as possible for passengers in the cabin. Powerful vyshtampovki over the wheel arches and the lower parts of the doors, stylish ribs prescribing the body above the door handles, a high window sill line and a roofline smoothly descending to the stern give the new product an assertive and even sporty look. Still, the wheels are a little larger – and just handsome, otherwise 16-inch alloy wheels with 205 / 65R16 tires spoil the picture a little.
Even the rear of the new budget crossover is solid and attractive. In the presence of a huge tailgate, deeply going into a powerful bumper, stylish lampshades of marker lights with LED filling, located horizontally on the vertical surface of the fifth door and the sidewalls of the body.

The editors considered that Maywei is one of the most versatile cars. You need to send your mother-in-law and father-in-law to the village for the whole summer – loaded the whole family into seven places and set off on a long journey. But when using all the places, the trunk is not the largest – only 295 liters. Luggage with such a trunk will have to be partially carried on hand. But when folding the third row, the loading volume grows to 1038 liters. Isn’t that enough too? Okay, add another row and get 2188 liters. Enough to transport a sofa, a wardrobe, a refrigerator and there is still room for a small dog.
Be sure to mention the peculiarity of opening the luggage compartment, since it caused us a lot of inconvenience during filming, probably in life it will be the same. The idea is that if you left the key inside the car, you will not be able to open the lid, you will have to return for the key or press the unlock button on the driver’s door. This feature is associated exclusively with China, or rather with private thefts of property from the trunk in traffic jams. So you think – is it a minus or still a plus for safety, because thieves often hunt on our streets too.
Competitors
The main competitors of Lifan Myway 2020 experts include Renault Duster, Lada X Ray. These cars are in the same price range, however, due to the roomy interior, which can accommodate 7 people at once, as well as comfortable seats, Lifan looks preferable.
Despite the fact that the crossover market is represented by a significant number of models from various manufacturers, Lifan Maiwei is able to compete with them due to its affordable price, the presence of 7 seats, and a good package even in the basic version.
Why is LIFAN MYWAY rear wheel drive?
The Chinese said that the new platform, being developed jointly with the Italian ED Design, is still in the process. Therefore, it was decided to use the well-known “trolley” from the Lifan Letu minivan (produced in the domestic market of China). The Letu platform implies a McPherson-type front suspension, and a dependent spring suspension with rear axle drive at the rear.
In our market, SUVs are mostly supplied with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. But after all, expensive BMWs drive with Mercedes on the rear wheel drive, they get stuck in small snowdrifts with a bunch of their fancy systems, but they drive.
To test the rear-wheel drive and auxiliary systems, we sent MYWAY down a 6-degree incline covered in ice. He never faltered. This is not enough, they sent him to the field to knead the melted clay: and here he can do everything. A clearance of 192 mm allows you to drive through bumps without slowing down, that is, you will get to the cottage without any problems. In front, shaking is practically not felt when changing the road surface, but the second and third rows felt obvious discomfort. Passengers passed each bump and tubercle through themselves.
And if it’s no joke, then all security systems work very well: it’s almost impossible to send the car into a skid due to the distribution of braking forces between all wheels, and the EDS electronic differential lock prevents slipping of the drive wheels when starting off and accelerating on slippery road surfaces. And now we remember that the tested car costs 829,900 rubles and give a standing ovation to the manufacturer from China (we planted the Rav4 in a small snowdrift at the 5th minute of the test).

A car in the Luxury package is safer. It has a rear view camera. Its presence greatly facilitates parking. It also reduces the risk of damage to the vehicle due to hitting an obstacle while reversing.
