Test drives and car reviews Chrysler Voyager (Chrysler Voyager)

Specifications
power unit
Technical characteristics of the Chrysler Voyager are of particular interest. The monocab was provided with two power plants that operate on gasoline and diesel fuel (the latter option is focused on the European market). However, the Americans are not afraid of the high fuel consumption of the Chrysler Voyager, so their cars are equipped with a gasoline 6-cylinder naturally aspirated 3.6-liter V-engine.
He received a system of distributed gasoline injection and a 24-valve gas distribution mechanism, which allows him to generate 283 horsepower (344 Nm). It consumes a gasoline engine of about 10.8 liters for every hundred kilometers. However, in practice this figure is much higher.
However, there was also a 4-cylinder 2.8-liter diesel power plant, which received a Common Rail direct-feed system, turbocharging and a 16-valve DOHC type gas distribution mechanism. This allows you to produce 163 “horses” (360 Nm). The fuel consumption of the Chrysler Grand Voyager is about 8.4 liters of diesel fuel in the combined cycle for every 100 kilometers. It is logical that the Chrysler Voyager diesel will be more economical and will provide good torque even from low revs.
Transmission
For such engines, the Americans have provided a 6-speed automatic transmission, which transmits all the torque only to the front wheels. Acceleration from zero to 100 kilometers per hour takes from 9.5 to 12.8 seconds, depending on the modification. The maximum speed limit is from 165 to 208 kilometers per hour.
Chassis
The 5th generation Chrysler Voyager was built on the Chrysler RT front-wheel drive platform, which implies a transversely placed power plant. The front of the minivan has McPherson type independent suspension and gas-filled shock absorbers, a transverse stabilizer bar, and coil springs. The rear part received a semi-independent beam-bridge with a transverse jet bar, springs and shock absorbers.
A large machine is controlled without problems, as it has a rack-and-pinion steering device and a built-in hydraulic power steering. The braking system boasts disc brakes on all wheels, which are complemented by electronic ABS and EBD systems. The front is fitted with 302mm vented fins, while the rears are fitted with regular 305mm fins.
Safety
Since this American car is a family car, by definition it should not only be comfortable and convenient, but also safe. Already the basic version boasts a stabilization system, ABS, pretensioners and force limiters of the front belts, as well as ISOFIX child seat anchorages. On top of that, there are 8 airbags, a rear view camera and rear parking sensors.
It is important to mention the Brake Assist emergency braking system, as well as the system that distributes braking forces (EBD). The body itself is also distinguished by reliability and build quality.
A complete list of security systems can be found on the manufacturer’s website, and there are even crash test results for the Chrysler Grand Voyager on the Internet.

Comparison with competitors
Only in the American market there are a lot of rivals for Chrysler. But there are many other markets. However, it was Chrysler who was one of the first to develop this niche, so they have a wealth of experience in this. They focus on price, quality and comfort level. However, Chrysler Voyager’s competitor is the Citroen C8, Ford Galaxy, Honda OdysseyHyundai Entourage, Peugeot 807, SEAT Alhambra, Volkswagen Sharan. There are many rivals and many of them have their pros and cons, so you need to focus on your wallet and the final destination of the vehicle.
Design decoration
From English, the word “Voyager” is translated as a traveler. The car itself is fully consistent with its name – it is a safe and comfortable vehicle for traveling with the whole family.
Exterior.
Externally, the minivan is quite conservative. This applies to all generations of cars, the design of which clearly shows the continuity of style.
Streamlined shapes, smooth lines and harmonious proportions of the body visually make the Chrysler Voyager smaller than its true dimensions.
The front of the car is quite expressive thanks to the large headlights, massive rounded bumper and the original chrome-plated false radiator grille.
At the same time, a rather sharp “muzzle” and clear stampings of the hood give the minivan a swift and confident look.
From the side, wide fenders that are chromed rather than body-colored, mirror and door handle covers, multi-spoke alloy wheels and roof rails catch the eye.
The rear sliding doors also look original, which can be two or one, depending on the wishes of the customer.
The stern of the car is no different. Small blocks of optics, a spoiler with a “stop”, a chrome strip across the wide tailgate and the Chrysler nameplate – everything is concise and in full accordance with the general style.
Interior.
Once inside the minivan you realize how spacious it is.
This is evidenced by the ceiling height, the distance between the seats and the impressive luggage compartment space, which, with the rear row folded down, can accommodate 450 liters of payload.
The interior decoration directly testifies to the “national roots” of the car.
In the finish, each of excellent quality is adjacent to inexpensive plastic.
Removable seats rest on massive base tubes, held in place by solid mounting locks.
Each passenger has a personal removable armrest and ceiling, and in the center, from the rear three-seater sofa to the console, a person of average height can pass, while only tilting his head slightly.
All passenger seats can be folded or completely dismantled thanks to the proprietary Easy-Out Roller Seats system.
Wide sliding doors make it possible to get out of the car in a tight parking lot without any difficulties, which is very convenient when traveling with children.
To create comfortable conditions on the road, an air conditioner with zonal interior heating, a high-quality audio system, a computer with a display above the rear-view mirror, cup holders and shelves are installed.
In addition to the usual glove compartment, there is a drawer under the first row seats, closing niches located along the sides.
Electric drives and microlifts are installed almost everywhere. They help open doors, adjust the driver’s seat, control windows, adjust exterior mirrors, etc.
Black plastic on the front panel does not glare, Cruise control controlled by buttons on the steering wheel, responsible for active safety ABSwhile the passive is represented by three-point belts, a pair of frontal airbags and side curtains.
In general, it is absolutely obvious that the main idea of the Chrysler Voyager minivan is maximum comfort in any sense of the word.
running car
As a suspension on the Chrysler Voyager, McPherson struts are used at the front (independent) and a torsion beam at the rear (semi-independent).
The braking system consists of disc brakes, only the front ones are ventilated.
In addition, the car is equipped with power steering and wheels of size 225/65R17.
Note that the simplest equipment of the “American”, assembled in Austria, includes power steering, a full package of power windows, front and side airbags, as well as ABS.
Such an arrangement of units and systems allows the car to provide high-quality passenger safety, excellent handling, minimal roll in corners, clear steering responses, decent feedback on the pedals and, of course, a comfortable, smooth and quiet ride.
Salon and equipment
The styling of the front panel is reminiscent of the Chrysler 300 C, apart from the location of the automatic transmission selector.
The car can accommodate 7 people and 640 liters of luggage at the same time. The main difference from competitors is the innovative Stow’n Go system. It allows you to completely hide the second and third row of seats in the floor. At the same time, the minivan turns into a small van. The loading space is increased to 3.3 m3. If a full set of passengers gets on board, then hand luggage can be folded into the niches for transforming seats. It holds a total of about 120 liters.
In addition to the standard Stow’n Go system, the Grand Voyager could be equipped with the optional Swivel’n Go. It allows you to turn the second row seats towards the gallery. As a result, a small conference room is formed. A special table is laid out between the seats.
The top version in the Limited package deserves the best recommendations. In addition to luxurious trim, the buyer will receive two independent DVD player screens, climate control with separate controls for the rear, multiple compartments, an excellent audio system and factory wireless headphones. The seller should be reminded of them.
