Interestingly, the latest Citroen Ami electric car was created by the French concern PSA with an eye on the legendary Citroen 2CV. Cheap “de shvo” became a real sensation, appearing in 1948. Affordable and easy to maintain little car instantly won the hearts of French motorists. And it was produced for more than 40 years, having survived a lot of updates and upgrades. Will the Citroen Ami electric car succeed in repeating the stunning success of its ancestor? Time will show. In the meantime, let’s take a closer look at the new French electric car.
Citroen Ami – as budget as possible. Box body with identical front and rear, as well as the same doors. Doors open in different directions. And to understand where the typewriter is in front or behind, you can only focus on the color of the lighting fixtures (marker lights with red glasses). The driver’s door opens against the direction of travel, and the passenger door, respectively, along the way. The side window sections are hinged, and the rear-view mirrors are mechanically adjustable. The wheels are small 14-inch with steel rims covered with plastic caps. An electric car is a toy, in a word.

A small electric car is reliably protected from uninvited intrusion – its doors are protected by a QR code. How do they open? You need to bring your own smartphone to a certain place on the door and please – the doors open! And if the smartphone is forgotten or lost? Now that’s a question!
Inside the cabin is quite crowded – but with such dimensions, this is understandable. The seats are quite hard and resemble stools, sitting is not very comfortable. There are two trunks in the cabin – and this is good, although they are small. The materials of this little super-electric car are the cheapest, plastic is used in the interior trim, simple straps are attached instead of door handles. Instead of the usual glove compartment, you can simply hang a backpack.
As for the internal electronics, with the help of his smartphone, the driver can freely manage the settings of the applications that control this car, and at the same time, the Citroen Ami One Concept is constantly connected to the Internet.
The smartphone must be with a special voice application and it must be placed in a certain place in the cabin. The smartphone is inserted into a special box with a 5-inch screen and it immediately automatically integrates into the media center, recharges, and with the help of it this mini-electric car is controlled. Insert your smartphone – here is the finished dashboard! This has never happened before, do you agree?
To the right of the steering wheel in the cabin of the mini-electric car there is a special washer that changes modes and starts the engine. To the left of the steering wheel is the turn signal button.
Interior
The cabin lacks premium finishing materials and advanced automotive electronics. In the presence of inexpensive leatherette and solid environmentally friendly plastic. There is no traditional instrument panel on the front panel. Its functions are assigned to an informative and easy-to-read media-command display.
- In the configuration of the center console there is only a small remote control with push-button activators of a few options and grooves for fixing the smartphone. The massive and embossed semi-sport steering wheel provides a comfortable and secure grip from different positions.
- The driver’s seat is adjustable for longitudinal movement, the side passenger’s seat has a rigid fixation.
- The small volumes of the two trunks are compensated by several niches and pockets that can accommodate not only personal items, but also part of a small cargo.
A test drive of the Citroen Ami 2022 city car confirmed good visibility from the driver’s and passenger’s seats in all directions, a decent build quality of interior equipment and a low level of interior noise background.
Specifications
The range of application of the new Ami includes short business and leisure trips within the city, so all the overall, running and operational characteristics of the electric car are more focused on the comfort and safety of movement on roads with high-quality coverage.
In relation to the predecessor of the Smart series, the Citroen Ami 2022 is different:
- a more compact body format, in ratios of 2410 x 1390 and 1520 m;
- wheels reduced to 14 inches;
- improved parameters of the comfort-creating hydropneumatic chassis suspension;
- reduced to 7.5 m turning radius.
New to the range is a 6 kW/8.2 hp electric drive powered by a compact modular battery with a 5.5 kWh nameplate capacity.
With a full charge, the electric city car covers a 70 km section of the road at a speed of no more than 45 km/h. The battery capacity is fully restored within 180 minutes. The turning radius is only 7.5 meters.
The budget status of a city car, even in the new edition, does not imply any special frills in technical and electronic equipment. In particular, there are no active safety systems not provided for by the current legislation for light ATVs.
