Despite the restyling that the Exid THL 2023 model year has recently undergone, the crossover has not received a new body, although it has changed somewhat compared to the previous version. This can be said for sure if you compare the photos of two SUVs. In addition, the equipment of the Chinese model was expanded and an alternative appeared in the technical characteristics of the car. At the same time, the update led to an increase in cross prices, as can be seen from this review.

Luxury

This is the starting version of the premium cross from China, which the manufacturer estimated at 3.99 million rubles. However, the level of possibility of the already basic version of the SUV is very solid and includes the following:

Handling and off-road performance

In terms of driving performance, the 2023 Exeed TXL is a very modern car. This model is almost perfectly kept on the road. This can be achieved due to the excellent settings of the chassis and steering system, as well as the presence of many electronic assistants that help the driver in any situation on the road. The same can be said about the ability of the crossover to maneuver and respond to any movement of the steering wheel.

You can add to the above that the car

Adding to the above is that the car has impressive off-road capability despite its crossover status. Exeed TXL received a clearance of 210 mm, an all-wheel drive system and a set of electronic assistants. They make it possible to feel confident on the road. However, it is still not necessary to overestimate the cross, since it is a typical SUV with off-road capabilities.

Are TXL good off-road?

On paper, the Exeed TXL boasts a ground clearance of 210mm and an all-wheel drive transmission with a BorgWarner clutch in the rear wheel drive. But in fact, the patency of the TXL Sport Edition is severely limited by the same retractable running boards – on forest roads we struck them in completely harmless places.

In addition, in difficult sections, the front wheels still slip at first, before the Exeed begins to row all four under the crunch of brakes that mimic the differential locks. But with diagonal hanging TXL still copes without forcing the driver to blush.

But the biggest change to the TXL Sport Edition is the engine. Everything under the hood is still covered in plastic. Although the shape of the pad has changed slightly, Acteco lettering has appeared. The characteristics of the 2-liter engine are already familiar from Chery Tiggo 8 Pro Max. Here, too, 197 hp. and 375 Nm of torque (plus 11 “horses” and 100 Nm compared to the 1.6 liter engine). In terms of taxes, such capacity is beneficial for owners. But in China, the same 2.0 engine develops 261 hp. and 400 Nm. So theoretically, power can be increased by tuning, but at your own peril and risk.

The TXL Sport Edition rides briskly. But you should not expect any huge difference directly compared to the 1.6 engine. Yes, there is more power and torque here, overtaking on the track is very confident. But the passport dynamics is not so impressive: 9.0 s to 100 km / h versus 9.8 s for a car with a 1.6-liter engine. Although such a doubt has crept in that there is some cunning in these figures. On Karelian roads, we managed to try acceleration in Sport mode. Moreover, there was no task to do this as efficiently as possible, the usual start from one pedal. And even if we take into account the error of the speedometer, the acceleration was less than nine seconds, or rather, something about 8.5 seconds. Interestingly, this figure is given for the Tiggo 8 Pro Max, which weighs almost the same as TXL. Therefore, there was a suspicion that the Sport Edition was going more vigorously than stated. Although it is far from the indicators of the Chinese version, acceleration is within seven seconds there.

Also here is another “robot”. It is also a 7-speed, with “wet” clutches. Other gear ratios are declared, the index for the box is 738DHA. But in reality, everything is as similar as possible to a car with a 1.6 engine: the shifts are very smooth, the “robot” tries to take care of itself and save fuel. With sharp starts from low speeds, there are hitches, this is especially noticeable in the city. On the track, the box behaves well, plus there is an honest manual mode. By the way, gasoline here needs to be filled with at least the 95th (for a car with 1.6, the 92nd is allowed). The average consumption for our trip was 10.5 liters.

And the crossover has become quieter. Windshield and front side windows received additional noise insulation. No changes have been announced for the suspension, the TXL handles bumps well. Judging by the documentation for the car, the curb weight has increased by 57 kg, compared with the Flagship package.

Exeed TXL is a car for a quiet ride. Two rows of door seals work well – less noise penetrates, you can not raise your voice. The move is soft, but with reservations. On a frankly broken road, the Exeed begins to sway, if you get into the amplitude, the suspension closes – and it’s not far from impacts.

Under the thick factory metal engine protection, I measured 22 cm. Excellent! But the protection is fixed strangely: in front between the steel sheet and the bumper there is a gap of three centimeters. In the mud or snow – like the open mouth of a whale swallowing plankton.
