The second modification is offered with a 2-liter turbo engine, the output of which is 192 horsepower. In this version, the station wagon is already equipped with an all-wheel drive system, as well as an automatic gearbox. A more dynamic engine allows you to reach speeds of 100 km / h in just 6.9 seconds, while this version consumes about 6.7 liters of gasoline. The most expensive version of the Mini Clubman is equipped with a 306-horsepower 2-liter turbo engine. On average, the fuel consumption of this version is 7.5 liters, and the station wagon reaches the “hundred” in just 4.9 seconds.

Despite the fact that the restyled version of the Clubman is the largest in the history of this car, its dimensions nevertheless indicate that the station wagon turned out to be quite compact. So, the dimensions of the body are 4253x1800x1441 mm, and the wheelbase is 2670 mm. As for the ground clearance, it is also modest – 140 mm. The fuel tank of the car holds up to 48 liters of gasoline, and in the luggage compartment it is possible to carry from 360 to 1250 liters of cargo.

Interior of the second generation Clubman

Compared to the hatchback, the new Clubman has a different front fascia, with a slightly modified center console and a wider center tunnel. In general, in the interior of the novelty, the designers decided to somewhat move away from the theme of “circles in everything”, which is confirmed not by round speakers located in the doors, but also by air duct reflectors. At the same time, the corporate circle remained in place, located in the center console, where the control unit for the multimedia and entertainment system is traditionally located and which has an original “chip” – an LED edging that can be illuminated in different colors. Also, it should be noted the presence of a fairly wide glossy border, which seems to encircle the dashboard, which makes the interior of the car more expensive and serious.

As befits a premium car, the Clubman’s cabin uses high-quality materials and all controls are in their usual places, providing excellent ergonomics for the driver’s seat. The front passenger seats have a pronounced lateral support, securely fixing the driver’s body even when cornering at maximum speeds. By the way, for the first time they are equipped with electric adjustments, which cannot but rejoice. The interior of the car can be made of fabric, a combination of fabric and leather, and also be completely leather.

The rear passenger seats comfortably accommodate two passengers, however, even the third passenger will not feel superfluous here. The backrests of the rear seats can be adjusted in inclination, and if necessary, they can be folded in a classic proportion, which will allow you to place more luggage. Trunk volume in the stowed state is 360 liters, and with the rear seats unfolded – 1250 liters (record figures for the Mini).

I was pleased with the presence of a dokatka (optional), which is located in the underground of the luggage compartment – a mandatory necessity that was absent from its predecessor.

Separately, I would like to note the presence of the original projection display, which is located in front of the driver and which can be removed if desired, as well as a comfortable, sports multifunctional steering wheel, with which you can control a large number of systems pre-installed in the station wagon.

The salon of the new “Clubman” is the realm of circles and ovals. Now I know where the designers of such youth models as Kia Soul And Nissan Juke. In MINI, the designers outplayed themselves. They made almost all possible elements of the interior trim of the car round or oval. A huge circle in the center of the dashboard, where the previous model had a speedometer, has turned into a multifunctional touch screen with a diagonal of 6.5 or 8.8 inches. The interior door handles are round. The selector of the machine, which has a round handle, “grows” from a circle on the finish of the floor tunnel. Similarly, “round” and many other details.

The speedometer moved to its traditional place, behind the steering wheel, and took on the appearance of a motorcycle instrument. And it turned out great! The most important information is constantly in front of the driver’s eyes, and the secondary can be called up on a large display – or not called up if it is not necessary.

Hours, fuel consumption, engine speed, daily mileage – all this is displayed on a small on-board computer screen, inscribed in the speedometer. On the right is the scale of the fuel gauge in the tank, on the left is the tachometer. Interestingly, such an important device for sports models seems almost superfluous here. And indeed: whenever you look at it, the revolutions are constantly somewhere close to the idle level. 3000 rpm – already “promotion”. Are you smiling? And what, exactly? The maximum thrust of a two-liter 192-horsepower gasoline turbo engine falls at 1250 rpm – almost like a diesel engine. And the maximum power develops at the top – at about 4000 rpm.

How to characterize this unit in one word? It’s very simple – it’s great! It demonstrates the most powerful pressure from the very “bottom” and almost to the “top”. Acceleration from standstill to 100 km / h, according to passport data, the most powerful MINI Cooper S Clubman takes 7.1 seconds. And here are the results of the measurements obtained during the test: in the D mode of the automatic machine, the station wagon accelerates from 60 to 80 km / h in four seconds, in the S mode – in three.

The machine on the test version was eight-range, from the famous Japanese manufacturer Aisin. Naturally, the unit also offers manual gear selection, and we could not help but try it out. You can “spur” the MINI at any time by downshifting using the steering column lever with the “-” symbol. But in mode D, the selected stage will not last long, after a few seconds the box will automatically return to automatic switching. When switching to S mode, the unit itself resets a couple of steps, and engine operation at speeds above 3000 starts to be heard in the cabin. This bee buzz further sets the driver in a sporty way.

And you can add a universal and a little more excitement – with the help of a drive mode switch, made (again in the form of a ring with a ledge-lever) next to the machine selector. There are three of these modes – Green, Mid and Sport, and in the latter the car becomes truly “evil”. The change of modes is displayed on the central multifunctional display in the form of a visual colorful cartoon.

Of course, a young and active driver will try, if possible, to choose the sports settings of the Clubman. But I would not ignore the Green mode if I were him. Let’s imagine that this person decides to go on a long road trip with his family or friends, and the road will lead him to regions where the network of gas stations is not as dense as in the capital and its suburbs, and not all gas stations can be 100% trusted. By the way, BMW recommends using Lukoil fuel, this brand is also preferable for MINI.

So, using the Green mode, you can save a lot of 95th gasoline, which is rising in price before your eyes. Proof: on the 26-kilometer section of the M9 highway between the cities of Shakhovskaya and Volokolamsk, I managed to save gasoline for 4.5 kilometers. Agree that this is a significant savings. The speed of the car on this section of the route ranged from 70 to 90 km/h. A little? Yes, but I did not set myself the goal of saving gasoline. I just had to move in a dense stream, there are few opportunities for overtaking on this stretch, so I rather just took advantage of the situation. The “saved” kilometers are clearly displayed on the multifunction display.

The average fuel consumption of the Mini Cooper S Clubman version with a gasoline four-cylinder 2.0-liter engine with a capacity of 192 liters. With. and an eight-band automatic is declared at the level of 5.8 – 5.9 liters per 100 km. During our test, the car consumed 7.8 liters per “hundred” on the highway and about 10 liters in the city.

“Cheerful and self-confident” car MINI was named by the creators of the film “Italian Robbery”, where this model played, without exaggeration, one of the main roles. It is known that another automobile concern offered its model for filming, moreover, in an unlimited number of copies. But for the picture, it was MINI that was chosen.

When accelerating on the highway, the car accelerates from 80 to 120 km / h in D mode in about 7 seconds, in S mode almost a second faster. “Reset” of gears during intensive acceleration looks like this: in D mode, the box “jumps” from the seventh to the third stage, in S mode – from the fifth to the third. This quickie is great at overtaking, and sometimes I could hardly restrain myself from the desire to take risks and jump out ahead of the next slug, for example, at a bend or uphill road.

It is a pity that trails full of ups, downs and turns are rare in our area, otherwise the MINI would show itself in even greater glory. The characteristics of the engine and the “quick-firing” machine gun are its undeniable trump cards, but, in my opinion, the most important thing is the chassis settings. How skillfully this car clings to the roadway, how “tasty” it turns! A relatively tight steering wheel (with electric power steering) makes only 2.5 turns from lock to lock and allows you to very accurately guide the Clubman along the chosen trajectory.
