General information about the model

The Hyundai i40 is a full-size D-class sedan developed by the South Korean automobile company Hyundai Motor for the European market. The i40 is assembled in South Korea, at a car factory in Ulsan. The car is equipped with 3 types of engines, including one diesel and two gasoline. In Russia, the Hyundai i40 is sold only with a 2.0-liter gasoline engine. For the first time, the car was presented at the Auto Motor Show in Geneva in 2011. In the same year, sales of the station wagon began, the i40 sedan went on sale only in 2012.

Interior

The interior of the Hyundai i40 turned out to be worthy. If we talk about finishing materials, everything is not so bad here. “Korean” has soft plastic and no leather trim. But Hyundai engineers can be praised for another important point. Ergonomics pleases inside, as each element or control can be freely reached. The presence of black “piano” varnish adorns the Hyundai ai 40 interior very much, which adds solidity to the car.

On the driver’s seat of the updated Hyundai i40, you can see a 4-spoke multifunction steering wheel. Each of the spokes has its own buttons. Unfortunately, the quality of the leather steering wheel braid of the Hyundai i40 noticeably suffers, as it is the first to give up and lose its respectable appearance. Next, you can see the stylish (at that time) design of the dashboard. This is a display in a round indicator, integrated into the center of a massive analog type sensor. The vertical screen of the on-board computer is responsible for providing additional information.

Of course, there is not as much space here as in Hyundai Sonata. Still, the difference in wheelbase makes itself felt. However, it’s quite spacious. The front row of the Hyundai i40 interior boasts very pleasant and comfortable seats with increased lateral support and more comfortable architecture. However, this is only for the most expensive version. The seats of the sedan received electrical adjustment and a heating function with 3 modes.

The appearance of this machine was created under the guidance of Thomas Bürkl. He previously held the position of chief designer at BMW and worked on the exterior of the 3- and 5-Series.

On the center console there was a place for a multimedia center installed at the top. There are 2 options in this case. Basic versions have a large number of keys and a simple display, while expensive versions have a larger screen and a minimum of keys. Moreover, when a massive display is installed, the Koreans do not put a small “climate” screen at the bottom, since all control will be transferred to a large display. At the very bottom there are keys responsible for turning on the heating and ventilation function.

As for the transmission tunnel of the new Hyundai i40, he got a fairly large and stylish transmission shifter. Not far away there was a place for an electronic-type “handbrake” key and buttons responsible for security systems. On the right, the Koreans placed a closing compartment with cup holders. In the back row, the engineers installed a traditional sofa. There is not an abundance of space, but there is enough space. It’s nice that the second row of Hyundai i40 seats is distinguished by two-stage heating and a folding armrest.

Two people will feel more comfortable. You can sit together, but it will not be so comfortable. The Hyundai i40 trunk is designed for 503 liters of usable space (for a sedan). The only pity is that the “Korean” suffers from not the best loading height and lack of pockets, compartments, straps or organizers. The Hyundai i40 station wagon version has a volume of 553 liters.

With the rear seats folded down, this figure rises to 1,720 hp. But it is worth noting that with the back row lowered, it will not be possible to achieve a flat floor. Raising the flat floor reveals a full-size spare tire and a small tool kit.
