Not like that!

Let’s start the Exeed VX review with an external examination. We will not look for manufacturing defects, unevenly fitted body parts, cracks and problems with painting. The Chinese have long since overcome these problems of growth. Let’s take a look at Exeed VX as a whole. Who does he look like? Which Japanese, Korean or European model inspired the creators of Exid VX? After all, it is no secret that manufacturers from the Middle Kingdom started with direct copying, and then moved on to borrowing a common style or individual interesting details. It seems that the Chinese have survived this hobby. In the guise of Exeed VX, it is difficult to find features of any of the competitors. The novelty does not suffer from the pretentiousness characteristic of many “Asians”. Before us is a fine, pretty, rather strict car. Although not premium, it looks very solid.

Driving pleasure

But let’s leave the nit-picking to the bores, the VX rides very well! I met a comment from video bloggers about the discrepancy between the power of the 249-horsepower power unit and the mass of the car – no, I did not feel a hint of a lack of power in the VX. Even though it’s not like in a German premium, you clicked and flew away, but 8.5 passport seconds to a hundred is enough for everyday driving. You can, if you want, leaving the traffic light, see in the rear mirror a crowd of credit sedans.

The seven-speed “robot” in Eco mode dulls a little in the first second after starting from a standstill and on the go, when you want to accelerate to drive through an intersection at a flashing traffic light. In Sport mode, the pause disappears, the box holds second gear up to 40 km / h, so there are no delays. Is that the sound of the engine becomes more audible, however, a pleasant tone.

The interior of the VX is very well muffled, in urban use it is a quiet car, and at idle it is almost silent – even the ticking of the turn signal on sounds louder than the running engine. And outside the city at cruising 100 km / h, the engine is not audible, only the tires are buzzing, and even somewhere in the area of \u200b\u200bthe middle pillars and further aft, aerodynamic noise appears. And the higher the speed, the louder they are. But in general, it’s also nice to drive a VX on the highway: the car is comfortable, economical – the average out-of-town consumption I got was about 7 liters per hundred. The suspension copes well with road trifles, the brakes are clear, grippy, allowing you to dose the effort. Nice heavy steering that you can let go in a straight line and the VX will go like clockwork. Without making cries like “put your hands on the wheel” like an Audi or Volkswagen. In general, all VX electronic assistants work reliably, confidently, but at the same time tactfully, without violence against a person.

The only thing VX can disappoint those who are going on a trip with a big company is the promised seven places. To seat even children on the unfolded third row, you need to move forward almost to the limit of the second, and then no one will fit normally on it – look at the photo. We’ll have to choose, or the second row, or the third. But not both at the same time.

How is the flagship perceived on the go?

In motion, the Exeed VX left a mixed impression. Journalists and bloggers talked about this during the autumn presentation of the model. This was especially true of the chassis. For some cars, it was assembled, it digested bumps well, and there were practically no rolls and buildup. For others, it’s exactly the opposite. I think my copy could be classified as “successful”.

The suspension goes well with single bumps, pits of various formats, joints on bridges, hatches – this is despite the 20-inch wheels with a dimension of 245/45. But when there are a lot of holes, the impression changes. “Exid” begins to actively transmit shaking to the salon. Still, you expect more softness from a two-ton crossover with a long base, including on such bad roads.

... but we must not forget that after all, only to

… but do not forget that after all, only a crossover

The crossover is controlled calmly, the effort on the steering wheel is blurry, it is hardly suitable for active driving. In the “Sport” mode, the steering wheel is clamped, it becomes heavier, which is good for the track. It’s also nice that the power steering modes can be set separately from the driving modes. For example, leave the car itself in a comfortable setting, and select a sporty setting for the steering wheel.

How does the most expensive Chinese crossover drive? Exeed VX winter test drive

The possibilities of a two-liter turbo engine (249 hp) are enough here. The VX accelerates briskly, according to the passport it is 8.5 s to 100 km / h. The seven-speed “robot” shifts gears smoothly and quickly. But sometimes, when parking or driving at low speeds, he still lacks the smoothness of the classic “machine”. When you sharply press the gas pedal, there is a hitch, but it is significantly less than in the same TXL. And there were no kickbacks on the hill. The average consumption for 1200 km of track was 12.6 liters, which is not bad for winter test operation.

Noise isolation at a good level. The VX has double glazing up front, plus this car has an extra layer of noise under the boot floor.

And separately about the off-road capabilities that I tested on winter forest roads. The drive here is full (in China there are also front-wheel drive VX), a Borg Warner clutch is responsible for its operation. The car rides surprisingly well in the snow, turning over the track was also a success without outside help. But it is important not to forget that the VX, although large, is a crossover. Ground clearance is declared as 200 mm. But the all-wheel drive system does not have any off-road modes or a forced lock button. Plus, in our instance, optional thresholds limit the patency. They leave when you open the doors, so you need to be careful when parking.
