In this regard, the Chinese GAC GS8 2022 can please its potential buyer, as it is equipped with numerous driver assistance systems, three-point belts, ISOFIX child seat anchorages, and 6-10 pillows, depending on the chosen modification. This model has repeatedly passed all kinds of safety tests and crash tests. According to the results of C-NCAP testing, the car showed good results, which fully correspond to the “Five Stars” indicator.

After an attractive appearance, getting inside the “Chinese” you understand that it is fully consistent with the exterior. The car is designed for 7 seats, where you can include the driver’s seat. Perhaps a 5-seater model will come to the domestic market, since we do not have much demand for the third row of seats. The driver’s seat lacks a fully digital instrument cluster because that would be grounds for raising the car’s price tag.
The dashboard has two analog-type priors, and between them is an 8-inch color display (in expensive versions). More simple options have a 5-inch monochrome screen. A 4-spoke multifunctional steering wheel is placed in front of the instrument cluster. Behind the “steering wheel” there are petals to change gears, and the steering wheel itself can be adjusted in height and depth. Not every European manufacturer has such an option.
The front panel of the car looks quite modern. If we talk about the interior of the GAC GS8, it looks more original. The central part is given to the 10.1-inch entertainment center screen. The manufacturer claims that they decided to use the Android Auto platform as the basis for it, which received a large number of additional functions, which include a Wi-Fi access point, Bluetooth, and 4G LTE mobile communications. There are two ventilation ducts on the sides of the screen, and the end part of the panel itself has a glossy plastic overlay.
The company decided not to save on managing functions, instead of touch screens, they decided to use the usual push-button options. At the very top there are “music” controls, then there is a climate control panel, as well as a compact recess for charging electronic devices (this includes a USB port, a 12V socket, and wireless charging). If necessary, it is possible to add an audio output and a climate control panel.
As for the landing formula, it is the following: 2+3+2. It is very comfortable to sit on the first row of seats, it is equipped with massive lateral support, a high back and the possibility of adjustments using an electric drive in 10 directions. The second row can accommodate 3 people. When necessary, the 2-row seats can be adjusted for reach and backrest. As for the third row, it is more suitable for two adults. Although there is not as much space as on the 2nd row, however, there will be no discomfort in the knees, and there will be enough space above the head.
The expensive GAK GS8 crossover boasts leather upholstery and inserts made from real materials, which include high-quality fabric, leather, and a combination of fabric and leather. The central tunnel is equipped with inserts made of natural wood or polished aluminum. If you take into account the seven-seater layout, then the volume of the luggage compartment is not the largest, but if you remove the 3rd row, the volume will be 860 liters. And if you remove the rear 2 rows, the figure will grow to 2,000 liters of usable space. As for the full-size spare wheel, it is suspended under the bottom, and the underground niche is equipped with a set of tools.
Technical specifications
The only available engine for the GAC GS8 in Russia is a 2.0-liter turbocharged unit with 190 hp. and 300 N * m of torque. Moreover, the turbine of this car is from the American company BorgWarner. However, this is not the only car mechanism from this legendary company, a multi-plate rear clutch for connecting all-wheel drive in 4 × 4 versions is also from this manufacturer. The starting version of the model is offered exclusively with front-wheel drive. Regardless, power is sent to the wheels by a 6-speed automatic from Aisin. This is a classic hydromechanics, which is characterized by increased reliability. More expensive configurations have the function of manual gear shifting from the “petals”. The average fuel consumption, according to the manufacturer, is at the level of 10 liters per hundred kilometers. It is important to note that the manufacturer allows the use of AI-92 gasoline for this engine.
The overall dimensions of the car are quite large, the length, width and height here are 4836/1910/1770 mm, respectively. The center distance is 2800 mm, which, in fact, made it possible to fit three rows of seats in the cabin. The crossover has no frame, so it has a load-bearing body. The suspension is fully independent and has a front MacPherson strut design and a multi-link rear. The mass of the car did not reach five kilograms to two tons. And the trunk in the standard position holds 430 liters of cargo, while with the rear rows of seats folded down, it is 2,000 liters. The tank is not the most voluminous, only 65 liters, although this should be enough for trouble-free long-distance driving, given the fuel consumption declared by the manufacturer. The clearance of the SUV is 200 mm, which is far from a good result.

The Chinese GAC GS8 became the first manufacturer’s model introduced to the Russian automotive market. This vehicle was first shown to the public in April 2016, and the official premiere in Russia took place only in December 2019. To date, this car in the first generation is moderately popular and there are especially not enough stars from the sky, for the simple reason that many motorists are waiting for the update to be released. In addition to Russia, the cross is also sold in China, where it shows noticeably better results.
