Despite the platform change, technically the Grand Cherokee has remained true to itself. It is still available with three all-wheel drive options:
- Quadra-Trac I – single-stage transfer case;
- Quadra-Trac II – two-speed transfer case with reduction gear;
- Quadra-Drive II – rear differential with locking function;
Rear-wheel drive versions will also remain in service. The suspension of the new Grand Cherokee L is fully independent multi-link. An adaptive chassis with adjustable ground clearance from 170 to 277 mm is optionally offered (standard ground clearance is 216 mm). The SUV can overcome a water barrier up to 610 mm deep.
Traditionally, there are practically no changes in the engine range. Under the hood is a 3.6-liter V6 with a capacity of 290 horsepower, already familiar from last year’s model. It is also possible to install a 5.7-liter Hemi V8 with a return of 357 horsepower. Both engines are paired with the same eight-speed automatic transmission.
Rear-wheel drive is standard (the new Grand Cherokee L is built on an upgraded Giorgio platform from Alfa Romeo Stelvio), but one of the all-wheel drive transmissions can be obtained for an extra charge. The base Quadratrac I has a front-wheel drive clutch, the Quadratrac II has a two-speed transfer case, and the Quadra-Drive II has an electronic locking rear differential.

Handling and off-road performance
Handling on a classic paved track has never been the main advantage of the car. Of course, the SUV confidently keeps on straight lines, moreover, having a significant number of electronic assistants, it can greatly simplify the process of “taxiing”. But with the passage of sharp turns and the feedback on the movements of the steering wheel, everything is not so rosy.
Where the new 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee really shines is its off-road capability. The car feels great on the primer, in a rut off-road or when driving on rocky areas. It has an all-wheel drive system, an impressive ground clearance of 210-218 mm, as well as several available driving modes that can be selected depending on the current road surface.

Dynamics and consumption
Even despite the very large body size and impressive mass, the dynamics of the American car is very decent. Depending on which power unit the SUV is equipped with, its acceleration to a speed of 100 km / h is achieved in 9.8-3.7 seconds. This result is equally good for city driving and for trips on the highway. In addition, the top speed of the car is also not very consistent with its SUV status, since driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee can accelerate to 290 km / h.
At the same time, decent dynamics affected the fuel consumption indicator, because even if the SUV is equipped with the least powerful engine, it will consume about 10.2 liters of gasoline. If we take into account the most productive engine, then in this case we can talk about the cost of 16.8 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers.
Design
The appearance of the updated Grand Cherokee is not much different from the previous generation model. It can be noted that during the restyling, the manufacturer installed new headlights, revised the shape of the radiator grille and expanded the front bumper, which houses a powerful air intake cutout. The side part has classic off-road features and stands out due to the powerful wheel arches and muscular relief on the doors. The rear of the body has a neat shape, where only two twin exhaust pipes can be noted.
In the cabin of an SUV, you will not be able to find any exquisite designer solutions or cutting-edge equipment. The console consists of a square media display flanked by vertical air vents. Immediately below it are the climate control unit and several buttons for activating various functions of the car. Salon chairs are quite comfortable, equipped with all the necessary adjustments and decent lateral support.
