Engine

The KamAZ 54901 engine is an in-line six-cylinder power plant jointly produced by the German company Liebherr and the Kama plant. In terms of quality and basic characteristics, the motor is an analogue of European units.

The long-stroke unit is equipped with six cylinders (d = 130 mm), the piston stroke in it is 150 mm. The standard provides for the installation of a cast iron cylinder block, a camshaft in the block, four valves per cylinder, wet liners, a Common Rail fuel supply system. The efficiency of the KamAZ 54901 motor is 43%, the manufacturer claims the possibility of further improving the engine and raising this figure to 50-55%. This will be achieved by improving the quality of combustion of the combustible mixture, gas exchange, reducing friction, using intelligent systems and efficient heat recovery. At the same time, the exhaust quality will be improved to Euro-6 requirements, and fuel consumption will be significantly reduced.

The car is equipped with advanced hypoid axles, the gear ratio is 2.5-3.07.

It is based on high-quality cardan shafts with end splines to reduce the total load on each of the nodes. The brake system is a reliable disc device, dynamic stabilization is supported. The usual equipment of KAMAZ 54901 K5 includes:

• Anti-slip system ASR;
• Advanced ESP stability control for safe drifting, maintaining overall vehicle control when driving on the road;
• Electropneumatic control drive EBS, which reduces the overall wear and deformation of the brake system, reduces the braking distance;

A special drawer under the installed “sleeper” is equipped with a compact refrigerator, the second drawer is suitable for use as a table.

The main control console is roomy and practical for everyday use. Starting the engine is supported by a special button, the seat is equipped with high-quality air suspension, a choice of suitable movement settings. In some configurations, an additional top bunk with a folding design is used.

Options and prices

In full-scale serial production, which is scheduled for 2022, the manufacturer plans to launch three versions of the tractor with a wheel arrangement of 6×4, 6×2 and 4×2. Also, the differences will come down to the settings and engine power. It is planned to implement not only a truck with an engine power of 550 horsepower, but also to expand the boost range from 380 to 750 horsepower. For these and many other tasks, a special conveyor has already been prepared at the Kama Automobile Plant. Together with Daimler AG, a production building has been prepared, where the body frames of the new generation K5 will be actively assembled. Prices start from 7 million rubles. For example, this is how much a dealer will ask for a version of a 4×2 truck tractor. But prices can vary both up and down.
