Interior
Although the novelty is positioned as an inexpensive one, its surroundings are admirable. Thus, the “Japanese” got a high-quality interior trim made of leatherette, plastic, fabric and metal inserts, as well as a decent multimedia installation and a high level of security. First, consider the pre-styling version, and then we will note the innovations.
On the driver’s seat of the Honda HR-V, engineers placed a lean three-spoke multifunction steering wheel, traditionally made for many of the company’s modern cars. On the “steering wheel” there was a place for two joysticks. In addition, a whole arsenal of keys is installed along the lower spoke. Behind the wheel of a Honda HR-V, you can see an elegant “tidy” with a unique appearance.
In the center there is a large analog-type speedometer, and on the sides there are 2 more round sensors, which got much more modest dimensions. It is interesting that in the right “kruglyash” they additionally placed the screen of the trip computer. But that was before the update. Now new copies of the XP-B are equipped with a new dashboard, where the speedometer is still in the center, but now there are 2 small screens on the sides. One of them is a virtual tachometer.
Despite the availability of inexpensive finishing materials used in interior trim, they are made very high quality. Even plastic is quite malleable and soft. The Japanese SUV is designed for 5 seats. Speaking of the front seats of the Honda HR-V, they got a wide range of adjustments and a heating function. In place, pronounced lateral support. After 2018, the interior space began to be equipped with other cup holders.
In front of the passenger sitting in front, experts installed a roomy glove box with a built-in cooling function. The center console looks concise, has asymmetric shapes and is not overloaded with any elements. The large display of the Honda HR-V 2020 multimedia center catches your eye almost immediately. For its operation, Japanese designers have provided not only buttons, but also touch controls.
After restyling, the designers equipped the model with a modernized media center, where there was already a physical volume control, while touch buttons used to be. It works seamlessly with Android Auto, HondaLink and Apple CarPlay interfaces. To the left of the screen is a lone ventilation unit deflector.
And to the right is a long line of 3 narrow vents. Below there was a place for a fairly large combination of HR-V touch keys that allow you to work with the climate center and other car functions. It goes almost to the junction of the dashboard and the central tunnel.
The manufacturer noted that thanks to the upgrade, finishing materials have become better, sound insulation has improved. The latter was achieved thanks to the introduction of more sound-absorbing materials and the use of active noise reduction technology. To compensate for low frequency sounds, it uses a basic multimedia system.
As for the central tunnel itself, it also turned out to be not overloaded. There are several function keys, between which flaunts a neat and compact HR-V transmission shifter. Not without a mechanical button for an electric “handbrake” and a small niche for various small items. In addition to this, the novelty is equipped with a wide armrest.
To the left of the tunnel, the company’s designers have provided a small niche where you can put, for example, a smartphone. Right next to it there is a USB connector, just allowing you to connect your device. The interior of the Honda HR-V itself is like a continuation of the appearance with hidden aggression and restrained elegance. However, everything here is done stylishly and in a modern way.
On the second row of the Honda XP-B, there was a place for a 3-seater sofa with three headrests. Although the SUV is small in size, the back can more or less comfortably accommodate even three of us. If two people are traveling, they can use the convenient folding armrest with built-in cup holders. The trunk of the Honda HR-V offers a decent 470 hp.
But if necessary, it can be expanded by removing the 2nd row, which will already provide 1,533 liters of usable space. The rear-mounted seats fold in a 60/40 ratio without any problems thanks to the special Magic Seat technology. In addition to this, the underground niche boasts a “roll-out” and the necessary minimum tools.
Crossover interior
The interior of the new Honda HR-V captivates with a rather stylish design of the front dashboard, high-quality finishing materials (pliable plastics, genuine leather and durable fabric) and well-thought-out ergonomics.
The driver’s cockpit is represented by a stylish three-spoke multifunction steering wheel and a highly informative dashboard, where the dominant place is reserved for a large speedometer dial.
On the center console there is a concise, but at the same time stylish climate control unit and a fairly large touchscreen monitor of the multimedia center. Special attention deserves a long section of air duct deflectors, located opposite the front passenger. There is also a roomy glove compartment with a built-in cooling function.
front passengers Comfortable seats with unobtrusive lateral support, a wide range of adjustments and a heating function are offered.
A fairly high tunnel passes between the seats, on which the manufacturer placed the gear knob, a mechanical button for the electronic parking brake and a small niche for various small things. Also already in the database, the car offers front riders a wide armrest.
Behind is a comfortable sofa that can accommodate three adult riders. When accommodating two passengers, a convenient folding armrest with built-in cup holders becomes available to them, which significantly increases the level of comfort during long journeys.
With a standard interior layout, the trunk volume is 470 liters, but if you fold the rear sofa, its volume more than triples – up to 1533 liters. Of the pleasant things – the presence of a small repair kit and a compact spare wheel, located under the raised floor of the luggage compartment.
Special attention deserves a high level of acoustic comfort, which was achieved through the use of special sound-absorbing materials, including: sound-insulating type of carpet, non-woven substrates and special sound protection of wheel arches.
Interior
The Honda HR-V has a fairly high driving position, so it can be mistaken for a full-fledged large SUV when sitting inside. The pedals and steering wheel are perfectly positioned and there is no problem finding the optimal driving position. The only thing missing from the driver’s seat is an adjustable lumbar support.
Visibility in the HR-V is simply superb in all directions. Good rear visibility is largely due to the large exterior mirrors. The dials and buttons for controlling key functions such as ventilation and heating are conveniently located. Separately, I want to thank Honda for the lack of uncomfortable touch buttons from the second generation HR-V.
The quality of the interior is another strong point of this crossover. A lot of soft and pleasant to the touch materials are used here, and the assembly feels no less reliable than in the same Karoq. The interior design itself is even more attractive than the Skoda, but this is already subjective. But HR-V is still not the best in this regard. If you want a car with a truly refined and high-quality design, then you need to go to the Mazda CX-30.
All versions of the HR-V 2021 have a 7-inch digital display between physical instruments and a 9-inch touch screen multimedia system. The second one is taken straight from the Jazz hatchback and is not as comfortable as we would like. But you don’t have to worry about that, as even in the base trim you’ll have wireless smartphone connectivity via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This allows you to use your apps on the HR-V’s touchscreen instead of relying on Honda’s cumbersome operating system.

Pros and cons of the model
Among the advantages of the Honda HR-V are:
- compactness, which provides better cross-country ability and a minimum of space occupied in the garage;
- a large trunk for an SUV of 285 liters;
- high reliability of the model, the Japanese quality of which is successfully combined with an affordable price;
- efficiency – almost no crossover could provide the same fuel consumption at the time of the release of the car.
The advantages of this car are much greater than the disadvantages of the car is not so much. These include a small number of options – although for 1999 this was enough – and a stiff rear suspension.
